10 Things I Hate About Poet
1. Hi my name is Rob and I am a recovering Fundamentalist. ("hiiii Roooobbbb")
2. My screen name means "poetic different-thinker" and most people online simply refer to me as Poet.
3. I am 27 as of June 5, 2003.
4. I have a degree and a fair deal of field experience in biochemistry (evolution, genetics, and ecology).
5. Having learned Sagan's "Baloney Detection Kit" sometime around my junior year of highschool, I have been mentally clean and sober of superstition ever since.
6. People who are intentionally mean for no reason, and people who try to bully others with idealistic political correctness piss me off.
7. I am straight but a member of the Gay Alliance for Tolerance and Equality (GATE). I volunteer with NOW and DCAP (a local AIDS organization). Also a member of the National Center for Science Education and the Kansas Citizens For Science.
8. Was accosted almost weekly on the campus of my small Louisiana university with the question, "Hey, aren't you that Evolution Guy?" (I helped fight against an anti-Darwin bill on the floor of the LA State Senate in 2001).
9. Big fan of Isaac Asimov, Carl Sagan, and especially Daniel Quinn (if you have not already, read "The Story of B" RIGHT NOW!!) and am working to try to design a community in which humans do not eat up their environment, but live as a part of it, with both an accompanying fiction and thesis work.
10.I think the world can be defined in natural terms and laws, and just because I know that the sun is a fusion reaction 93million miles away being refracted by the atmosphere does not detract from my awe at witnessing the sunset every time.
