After Lunch in the Girls' Dormitories
Linda rushed into the room as if a disaster had occured. She slowed down slightly as she approached her bed, with, as always, her toad in it's cage right next to in. She sat on her bed, and opened up Frog's cage. He grunted hungrily. Linda opened her can of toad food and gave him a couple of flies. He gobbled his lunch down quickly, and contentedly sat in her lap waiting for what always came next.
Linda bent down to the point at which her head was level with Frog's body, and looked at him respectfully. Then, she began her almost endless ranting about her terrible life.
"Oh toad! I just don't know what to do! I feel I am the only one who has any misfortunes at all, and I feel as if I should just fall over and die. Have you ever had any misfortunes? Ah, silly me. Of course you have! I remember the time that I put you on the window sill and you fell off and landed in my bowl of soup. But that was such a long while ago. Have you had any since then that I don't know about?" Linda paused, and burst into tears. "I'll never be happy! Ever!" She looked down and realized that toad wasn't listening and was watching and fly buzzing around the room instead. She put him back in his cage and sobbed, "I gotta go to the bathroom." and with that she ran out of the room and down into the common room.
