Early Bird Breakfast at the Hufflepuff Table
The Great Hall was empty, though each House table was lined with silver plates and steaming breakfast dishes. Gwen wondered how on earth they got the food to stay hot for several hours.
Aiden, walking beside, her, was quiet - in fact, he seemed downright moody. Gwen poked him and gave his arm a reassuring squeeze.
"Cheer up," she said. "At least they aren't serving oranges."
Aiden glanced at her without smiling and sat down at the table. Aiden looked up at the dark grey ceiling. "Raining." He reached across the table and picked up a stack of toast and handed half of it to Gwen. He put the syrup next to his plate and retrieved the butter and strawberry jam for Gwen.
With a weary sigh he sat at his plate and drizzled syrup over his toast. "Don't see why you'll never try this," Aiden said, pciking up his fork and beginning to cut up his toast.

"It's insanely disgusting," Gwendolyn replied primly. "I can't see how you CAN eat it. Unlike you, I'm on the normal half of the toast-eating population."

Aiden laughed into his chocolate milk. Putting his glass down, he eyed Gwen and slowly put a square of syrupy toast into his mouth. He chewed it leisurely with a antagonizing smile on his face, "Mmmmmmmmm."

"What do you want to do after we finish breakfast? Are you doing to go back up to the common room and read?"

"Sounds good," Gwendolyn replied, downing the rest of her orange juice. "But it means I'll probably have to do something to my hair afterward."
Re: Early Bird Breakfast at the Hufflepuff Table
"Maybe I could do it," Aiden replied, fluttering his eyelashes. "You did mine after all." He checked his watch. "We don't have especially long though, so let's hurry up and get out there. I still have to grab my bag and brush my teeth."

Linda arrived at the Hufflepuff table to find it deserted. So the owner of that Herbology book has already eaten breakfast. Well, at least I won't have to steer clear of anyone yet. She chose a seat at the far end of the table, like she usually did, and sat down. She was not quite so hungry this morning, so she only put two waffles on her plate to start with. She filled her goblet with juice, and started to wolf down the waffles quickly, so she could be out of the Hall when other people started to arrive.
It didn't take very long for people to start coming though, and since she knew that she couldn't eat fast enough to avoid them all, she slowed down. She didn't like the noisy chatter of the Great Hall. It was so out of place. People should save their endless chatter for their dormitories. It distracts people from eating, which was what breakfast is for. And with that thought, Linda stuffed the last waffle into her mouth, and headed up the stairs, back to the common room.
3 minutes later...
Hannah found a seat at the Hufflepuff table next to Seth Barker, a tow-headed 3rd year. He mumbled a shy "hello" as she sat down.
Hannah served herself some sausage and eggs. Looking around for the orange juice, she spotted it near Seth's left elbow.
"Seth, could you pass the orange juice?"
"Um, sure," he said, and lifted it over his plate to her side.
Hannah smiled warmly. "Thanks."
As Hannah poured herself some, her green eyes searched the table for Gwen. Where did she go? Glancing up, she saw the ceiling of the Great Hall was grey and rainy. Smiling slightly to herself, she thought she had some idea of where her friend was.

James walked up to the Hufflepuff table.
"OY! Anybody seen James?" Several amused looks were exchanged and many titters were heard. James grinned ruefully, "Anybody seen Gwendolyn James?" There was a soft sound of recognition, but there were only shaken head. James rumpled his hair, "What about Aiden, have you seen him?" Still more head shaking. James groaned and stalked off.
