Helping a colleague
Cecelia glanced up from her desk as she heard a rap on the half-open door. "Oh!" She stood and went to the door, "Hello, Professor Estrella. Won't you come in?" Lia opened the door the rest of the way and motioned Professor Estrella in.

OOC: I would have posted sooner, but I thought that maybe I should wait for...uh, come to think of it, I don't know...
IC:
Professor Estrella got right to the point. "Hello, Cecelia. I've happened to, ah, stumble into a troublemaker's products. I have a byproduct of the enchantment, and I need you to make a Wand Identifying Potion so that I can nab the culprit. When could you possibly do it for me?" Whoever the prankster was, he was unlucky to have had Professor Estrella happen upon his joke. She was one of the most strict when it came to rule enforcement.

Cecelia was taken aback at her fellow teacher's brisk manner. It was hard not to look downtrodden. She hardly knew any of the other teachers here - barely knew their names - and had been hoping to be friendly, if not friends, with some of her coworkers. But judging by her first interaction, it was strictly business around here.
"I can do it now, if you'd like..."

"Perfect." Suddenly Professor Estrella grinned. "You wouldn't, by any chance, want to know what happened, would you?"
OOC: Like I said, Professor Estrella is strictly business when it comes to rule breakers. But normally she's fun, they can still be friends... Btw, I assumed that they knew eachother well enough to use first names. (see above)

Feeling much better after this change in manner, Cecelia grinned too. "I was just going to ask. But come on into my office, it's warmer. And the book I'll need is in there."
She led Nula into the smaller room through a door in the back of the classroom. Shelves everywhere were filled with potion ingredients and books. Cecelia trailed a finger along one shelf on the left and pulled out a thick book. She grinned, "Potions for Teachers: Relaxers, Troublemaker Detectors, and A Few Hexes. My new fourteen-year-old stepbrother got it for me." She set the book on her desk and pulled up another chair, "Sit down, won't you, Nula? Help yourself," Cecelia flicked her wand and a tray with tea and goodies appeared. "So, do tell. Wha'd the little bugger do to you?"

Nula laughed. "Well, to make it brief, some 'little bugger' hitched up some sort of Dungbomb contraption that explodes on impact, for example, when someone walks into it. And..." she glanced with a wry grin at her robes, still smelling slightly foul. "I walked into it."
She pulled out the piece of web, carefully preserved, from her pocket. "This is part of the web that didn't disintigrate from the explosion. Unfortuanately, I'm no good at Potions. Oh, and I have a Preservation Charm on it. I don't know if you want to take that off before you use it."
She watched as Professor Herring pulled out various potion ingredients. "I don't have any sympathy for rule breakers. Though I'm wondering what punishment to give this particular rule-breaker. I don't know...some students don't respond very well to the regular detention thing, so I try to avoid it altogether."

Cecelia put her hand over her mouth, laughing. "Dungbombs?!? Oh you poor thing!"
She took the web carefully from Nula. "No, the Preservation Charm will wear off as I boil the web." She poured and mixed and crumbled the potion ingredients into her cauldron with somewhat of an artistic flair. Soon it was bubbling robustly, light green and shimmery. With a soft plunk Cecelia dropped in the web. She smiled at Nula, "And now we wait."
She picked up a cookie, nibbled on the edge. "I'm having trouble with some of the students myself - one in particular, but it's hard to rule out that her friends are in on the project when she's the ringleader." She sighed.

Nula took a cookie herself and glanced admiringly at the potion. "You're really good at Potions...what am I saying, of course you're good, you're the teacher!" She shook her head briefly, then looked back at the teacher. "So...a student is giving you problems? Do tell." She grimaced a little. "I may be able to tell you how to handle her; I've probably given her a punishment or two before."

"It's Carmondy - Cunningham, you know. She stole unicorn water from me, and I don't know why. I'm sure that whatever she's doing, she's not doing it alone; she'll have every one of her clique in on it. She's a dear, but she's rather a bad influence too. I'd like to do something about it, but I don't know if anything I could do would do any good. And then of course there's the question of what she's going to do with the unicorn water - though it's something against school rules, I can tell you that. Otherwise why didn't she just ask to use some?" Cecelia breathed a sigh and took a thoughtful bite out of her cookie.

Nula snorted. "Yeah, I know her. Lies every day of class about being late. I gave her an essay to do: if she can't find good uses of her time, I give them to her. I can't stand people who lie. Or break rules at all." She glanced wryly at the bubbling potion. "As one trouble-maker is about to find out."

"Were you as law-abiding a citizen as a student?" Cecelia inquired curiously.

"Good question! Actually, I almost never broke the rules, even though I liked jokes. Whenever I did do something that crossed the line, it was always my favorite teachers who punished me anyway, and I knew it was probably for my own good." Nula stared into the fire. "I've seen the disasters that occur when kids don't get punished..." She jerked up. "Um, it's nice talking with you, but how much longer is this going to take? If it's going to take too much longer, I may as well get my notebook down here and start grading and planning and all that kind of dull stuff. No rush, I'd just like to know."

Cecelia glanced at the bubbling cauldron, "Actually, as soon as it changes color again it'll be done. Then the kid's wand will be fluorescent pink and emit 'CONFESS OR NEVER USE YOUR WAND PROPERLY EVER AGAIN' whenever they try to use it for anything. I'd post a memo for all the teachers to keep an eye out for a pink wand, personally. Oh, there it goes - " she nodded at the potion which now looked rather like spinach - "and now the kid is wondering what on earth is wrong with his wand."

Professor Estrella laughed as she got up and headed for the door. "I'll send all the teachers a message via some ghosts. Was nice chatting with you; be sure and drop by sometime, but now I gotta go do those lesson plans!"
