(8/25/05 3:28 pm): I'm not sure if you get as frustrated as I do watching the news, but I think it's a bit more than Fox News. It seems like there is simply a LOT of kidnappings and sexual predators running around. I'm paranoid about my own kids playing in the yard without someone close by.
The Bible does say in one of the Timothy books that in the last days there would be (literally according to the Greek) "savage" times in the last days. Goes on to describe very self-centered people seeking what they desire at anyone's expense.
Maybe that's an easy prediction? I'm sure you can look at it that way, and it's also a little self-centered of me to claim that life in the United States is worse than it is in other parts of the world. Obviously it isn't, although in some of the poorest parts of the world I've been in, no one worried about sexual predators stealing their children...
Nevertheless, I just wonder. I do believe we are in the last days, but that's just my opinion, and I'm guessing. But like a drunk who has hit rock bottom and has to reevaluate his life... I think our country could do bit of soul searching. Christians and non-believers alike.

I think we're going crazy so to speak and it's just like the Bible said it would happen. We are living in the last days!

(8/31/05 9:29 am): this is just a lame Bible thumper idea
People have been doing bad things to other people for a long, long time. To suggest this is somehow a "sign" that Jesus is coming back is simply childish. The prediction in the Bible you mentioned is a self-fulfilling prophecy because OF COURSE people are lovers of themselves, lovers of pleasure, etc... And most of the time, there is nothing wrong with that.

It should be laughable that Middle Eastern guys from 2000 years ago would predict our society would suffer from the same problems and evil that theirs did. And yet, here we are. And the current violence, sexual perversian, and safety issues are starting to resemble how the Bible described Sodom and Gomorrah!
Here's are the verses in question:
"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God- having a form of godliness but denying its power." II Timothy 3:1-5
This is simply a general statement of the last days, and has absolutely no time table, or prediction of how long the "last days" will last. And unfortunately, it seems it is becoming a more accurate description of our world with each passing year.
I do think things are worse, at least here in the United States. Kids used to play outside without fear of being shot or raped. Today, you don't even have the feeling of security in rural areas. And your statement that "most of the time there's nothing wrong with that," makes the Bible's point doesn't it?

Is it just the U.S.? Look at the liberal lifestyles in many of the more affluent european countries. Homosexuality is accepted as normal, prostitution is regulated by the government, drug paraphenalia is handed out freely like candy, and "assisted" suicide is not only legal, but encouraged. Sounds like a very self- and pleasure- oriented society to me.

Yes, things have steadily gone from bad to worse. and they continue to go completly down the toilet. How can you think its not a big deal? I agree with PB, its just like Sodom and Gomorrah, everyone is just going with the flow and as it gradually gets worse, oh well. Just as long as it doesn't effect me... Thing of it is it does effect you whether you realize it or not. Its called the trickle down theory. It will reach you, in one way or another. This generation is just so use to the nasty ways of life it seems nothing effects them anymore. Hey, look another kid got shot, you wanna go get a coke? Now thats sad.
