Lunch with the Ravenclaws
Aaron walked into the Great Hall and took a seat at the Ravenclaw table. He looked around the table. He had had a good first day so far, even though potions didn't seem to be his best subject, and he couldn't imagine how anybody could learn anything from History of Magic. He finished his sandwich and walked out of the Great Hall. He wanted to explore the grounds a little bit before Care of Magical Creatures started. And besides, he would have to go outside anyway.
Mari and Ali walked over to the Ravenclaw table and sat down.
Or at least Ali did. Mari tried to sit down, but missed the seat and landed on the floor. She was up on her feet again in about half a second, but it wasn't quick enough for people not to see her.
"Oops," Mari said as she sat in her chair.
"Smoothe Mari," Ali said chuckling. "I thought potions was fun! What about you?"
"It was ok," Mari replied. "I like the new teacher a lot, but I still don't like the class!"
Carina
Carina walked in just in time to see Mari fall, and forced down a giggle. She sat down across the table from her and Ali.
" Either of you interested in trying out for Quidittch teams this year? I'm going to try for Seeker."
Her cat plopped himself on the table, and meowed ferociously in Mari's face for a bite of her sandwich.

"I am!" Mari said excitedly. "I'm thinking about a chaser maybe. I've been trying to convince Ali to tryout too, but she's not sure."
"i can talk for myself thanky uo very much!" Ali said. "And, yeah I'not sure. I'll have to see how much time it will take up. I don't want to decrease my studying time," She said.

"Good afternoon," Lily said brightly as she slid into a seat at the Ravenclaw table, red hair swishing behind her. "I thought Herring was rather nice, didn't you?"
Ali
"She was fine," Mari said dully. "Class was interesting but I almost made our potion explode. I can't wait till Care of Magical Creatures."
"I thought she was just lovely," Ali said bightly to Lily.

Marti eyed the nearly full Ravenclaw table with a blank expression. The only empty seats were in the immediate vicinity of Lily and Company. Marti's stomach growled again and she decided it wasn't worth waiting for another seat to present itself. She walked over and sat down.
"Hello," she said tonelessly, helping herself to some orange wedges.

Marti stiffened slightly, "It was fine...I was a little irritated at the disasterous way Potions ended, but I suppose it wasn't really anyone's fault. And you?"

"As usual," Marti agreed. "And the worst thing is that Hogwarts isn't likely to ever get a new teacher, since Binns will be around forever more. I wonder if they still pay him. It's not like he needs the money anymore, he's dead."

Lily snorted into her pumpkin juice. "You're right," she said. "It looks as if we're stuck." She gave an exaggerated dramatic sigh, droning - "Binns will be here for us, and our children, and our children's children, and our children's grandchildren, and their children..." she laughed again, and stopped.
Ginger
Ginger sat down, looking a little pleased to be sitting so close to Lily. "Sorry I'm a little late," she said. "I've just been a little off schedule all day, I guess." She took a deep breath, a little nervous to be the center of a conversation with all these kids who were older than her. "Um, so did everybody like Potions?" And then, when just about everybody nodded their heads, she plunged on. "I thought it was really cool, and the teacher's really nice."
Loral sat at the end of the table, where she wouldn't have to be around as many...lesser beings. Over at the other end of the table she could see Ginger trying to impress the other girls. Hmph. The little bratty showoff. (OOC: Is it okay if Loral doesn't only pick on my characters? I'm a little nervous about snobbing all my friends'...and anyway, no one's ever struck up a conversation with her, which I guess limits the possibilities...a little.)

Marti looked intently at her plate, pushing around her noodles. "About Binns, Lily...yes, he'll be around. But will Hogwarts?" She looked up at Lily with eyes reflecting fear in their depths, "Not if You-Know-Who has his way."

Lily's face clouded. "Good point, Marti," she said, and sighed. "I suppose we'd better just hope that Hogwarts is around for our children and theirs, even if Binns does come as part of the package."

"Hope, nothing!" Marti said, her chin in the air. "We will made sure of it, for the sake of our children's children, even if not for our own sons and daughters. You-Know-Who will not give up, even by the time their generation."
She looked around the Great Hall, eyes distant, "We are still only children, but war robs everything of everyone; life, freedom - even the innocence from children. Here we have enough courage, intelligence, and loyalty to make a difference - and we will have to."
Marti returned her gaze to Lily. Her voice lowered in volume as its intensity increased, "We will not be innocent children for long."
Marti rose and left the Great Hall.

"Not all of us are innocent now," Lily said darkly, thinking of her Muggle parents who didn't know the threat they faced. "In fact, few of us are. See you."

Ginger mused, a little awe-struck by the seriousness of the conversation. "Y'know, it would be, well, a little fun to save the world...but it'd be hard. Wish there was something I could do." She gazed into her pudding: Wish there was something I could do...It'd be fun to save the world...wish I could do something... Oh well. Saving the world might as well be for the big and brave.

Lily gave a hollow laugh, and forced a smile. "You're right," she agreed. "But there's not much that we can do - don't worry about it for now. Hogwarts is the safest place we could possibly be." She refrained from adding, it's not us that I'm worried about.
