Next day, the Common Room
Sirius sauntered into the Common Room to find Remus, James and Peter grouped at the same table, studying.
"She's in the bag," he said loudly as he neared his friends' table. "Katoka Martin loves me."

James looked up from his work skeptically. "Come now, Padfoot, it's not even been a half-hour. It's not like it was love at first sight, she's seen you before. She can't possibly be hooked already."

"You'd be surprised, Prongs old pal," Sirius said with a lofty wink. "That girl's dead gone on me for sure. Don't you just wish you had my knack with the ladies?"
"He just wishes Evans would realize his existence," Remus interjected without looking up from the essay he was half-through. "Poor Prongs. Nothing but bad luck."
"Unlike yours truly," Sirius exulted. "I'd refrain from betting in the future, Prongs," he added wisely. "You don't have much in the way of guessing the outcome."

James remained doubtful. "Hrmph. I won't believe it until I see it. You'll have to show us in class tomorrow."

"Yeah yeah, sure sure. Oh, and dija notice? Qudditch results are up. Looks like our team will be pretty good this year - if you don't goof around too much."

Re: Next day, the Common Room
"Me? Goof?" Sirius' tone was one of such convincing horror that several people studying nearby looked up in surprise. With a wink to the common room at large he lowered his voice slightly. "You're the goof, Prongs old pal."
Kenneth and Thomas
Kenneth ducked into the Gryffindor common room, immediately aware of the Marauders sitting at a table to his right. He briskly brushed past them and strode to the other side of the room towards the tables in the corner. Kenneth saw Thomas waving to him from one of them, so he grinned at Thomas and came over.
"Hey, what's up?" he said, swinging his backpack onto the table with a thud.

"Transfiguration," Thomas said darkly as Kenneth sat. "And what about you?"

"Y'know who's the real goof? Dumbledore. Putting me in all these leadership positions...Quidditch captain, Head boy...how's he expect me to keep up with my school work?" James put the back of his hand to his forehead with a tragic expression.

"Oh, please," Peter muttered darkly. "You might have compassion on those of us who really do struggle and refrain from flaunting your brilliance."
"It's all bravado," Sirius confided in a mock-whisper. "Betcha didn't know he's failing all his classes, did you?"

James looked aghast. "Padfoot! I TOLD you not to tell anyone! You have any idea how disillusioned the entire population of Hogwarts would be if word got around?? For goodness sake man, shut up, before you cause mass turmoil!"

"Aw, Padfoot does that anyway, mate," Remus said. "Among the girls here, at least."
"That's me," Sirius said with a grin. "And that my friends, is why your bet is too easy. Just too easy. Can't wait to see your getup at the grad ball," he added maliciously to James.

"I'm depending on Marti to make sure I can wear some very nice, masculine dress robes. And I still don't think she'll let me down. We'll just have to see how it goes, won't we?"

"Dunno how good Marti's taste in dress robes will turn out to be, mate," Sirius said innocently. "You might be out of luck."

Sirius sniggered. "I'd start rethinking that bet, anyhow, mate," he said. "I'd be willing to let you off easy if you changed your mind now - you'd only have to wear the robes for, say, two hours instead of three."

"Maybe so friend, but in the end I'm still going to win and make you dance every dance with Gertrude Turpiculus." James shuddered involuntarily.

"You wish," Sirius said airily. "My manly charms are far too irresistable for that ever to happen - although I know poor Gertrude would probably die of jubilation."
Kenneth and Thomas
OOC: What exactly was the Transfiguration assignment again? *sheepish look*
Kenneth drummed his fingers on the table. "Nothing much. Need any help with your Transfiguration homework?" He grinned. "Not that you would or anything. Hey, are you up for a game of chess later?"
