SmiteCam V
SmiteCam V mwillett.org/atheism/Smitecam_V.htm

See me challenge the gods (including several of the one and only gods, including the jealous ones) to smite me.

New for SmiteCam V is a VIRGIN SACRIFICE.

It doesn't seem to make any difference at all whether you challenge the One True God by his one true name or you challenge one of the thousands of mythological gods he might be jealous of. Whatever you do exactly the same thing happens. Nothing at all.

That isn't what happens in the Bible. In the Bible God shows he is real with rather clear signs, if you believe the people who are telling the tales.

The disciples of Jesus didn't need to show any form of faith. Believing in what was demonstrably true is nothing to do with faith. If what the gospels describe happened as it happened no disciples showed any form of faith at all. We have to take it on faith that Jesus can't swim, they supposedly watched him walk on water. At the most you can say they were led to form a particular conclusion. Surely to observe a man walking on water and conclude that nothing supernatural had occurred, that is what requires an act of faith. In contrast Christians today are asked to perform an act of faith by believing that the laws of the universe were temporarily suspended long ago and far away and the fact that they accept this story without demur makes them better people. All the evidence they are offered is simply the word of other people who have been told to believe exactly the same thing, in fact a chain of such people going back seventy generations and comprising many madmen, simpletons, foreigners and proven liars.

SmiteCam V is an attempt to demonstrate to the world that religious faith is laughable. By laughing at it quite directly.

I don't believe that religion is special such that it requires special respect. Everybody is entitled to their opinions and the right to express them and to get together to express them. Simply because those beliefs are particularly absurd and lacking in logic or proof does not entitle them to some kind of higher form of regard that goes beyond tolerance to become respect or special protection from examination, questioning or ridicule. In my book respect is not something to demand it is something to earn. It is not cool to mock beggars, the meek or the poor in heart. But politicians, billionaires, generals with ten rows of medal ribbons and televangelists with bouffant hairdos are all fair game. And so are all the idols and gods that fill the world's temples.
