Third Class: Part-Humans, Part Two
"I hope that you enjoyed your period without homework," Batzri said drily as the class took their seats. "I assure you that it will be a rare occurence, and it will be duly made up for in the times you do. Now, please open your textbooks to the second chapter. Yes, Miss Bendigeid, the section on werewolves."

Morgan's mouth clamped shut and she shot an annoyed glance at Batzri. The professor only smiled.

"The other variety of part-humans we will discuss in this class are the werewolves." He eyed the corner where James Potter and his gang sat for a moment before continuing.

"Werewolves have been shunted between the Beast and Being divisions of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures almost since the Department's conception. While the general consensus is that werewolves are mostly-human, being as they are only inhuman one night of the month, there are enough with opposing viewpoints to make it a tricky situation.

"It is true that werewolves, like vampires, are prime recruits for Lord Voldemort and others like him. As werewolves are generally much-persecuted individuals, many become embittered and turn to the darker sides of life. It is easy for Lord Voldemort's promises to become sweet to persons who have become bitter for any reason, and werewolves are no exception.

"However, there are many lycanthropes who cope well with their situation and are able to lead mostly-normal lives despite lycanthropy. There are currently a number of healers and advanced potionists at St. Mungo's working toward a cure, or a partial-cure, for lycanthropy.

"Now, you have twelve minutes exactly to research all the signs of lycanthropy. I would advise you to make note of these as you will be quizzed on them at the end of this lesson; as well, lycanthropic signs come up during O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s. After your reading is complete you will have eight minutes to ask questions before your quiz. Begin."

Remus kicked James, sitting next to him.

"This is a real necessary course of study," he whispered from the corner of his mouth. "Think I should go give him Remus Lupin's Signs of a Werewolf?"

"'[/i]One: he's sitting in my chair,[/i]'" Sirius mimicked in a whisper from behind. Remus grinned.

"Yeah, those."

"There will be complete silence, please," Batzri interrupted flatly. "Mr. Lupin, Mr. Potter, Mr. Black - a point each from Gryffindor for disruption of the class."

James quickly scrawled on a scrap of parchment Hehehe, if he calls that a distruption, what would he call our worse infractions? With a slight pang he thought of Ginger. He leaned over to Peter's book, "The werewolf info starts right there," and casually dropped it on the book as he pointed.

Rose and Josh are SOOOOOOO COOL!!!! THEY RULE THE SCHOOL!!!!
Rose opened her book to the specified page and bagan to read. Potter and his gang...for some reason she always thought of Potter as the leader, she didn't know exactally why... they found something funny about the assignment. They found something funny about nearly anything.

Josh rummaged around in his bag for his boo9k. As he straghtened, he saw Aaron, the kid he had met in Astronomy. He gave a Small wave and saw it returned. Maybe he had found a friend.

Aaron opened his book and started reading. Werewolfs. So they really did exist. The muggles had all sorts of storys about them, and from what he was reading here, they're un-educated guesses were acctually not to far off. He remembered the forbiden forest and smiled. The perfect place for a werewolf to live. Maybe he could get Josh to help him lure someone there and then dress in a werewolf costume or something. That would be neat. Maybe he'd do it to that snobby girl he had seen while he was flying around on his broom -- he smiled at the image of her running back to the castle screaming bloody murder.

He tore of a little corner of parchment and scribbled a little note on it to Josh. I wonder if there are werewolfs in the forbiden forest. He levetated it up and started moving it across the room to where Josh was sitting. Halfway there it dropped to the floor. darn it, Aaron thought and tryed to lift it back up.

Sirius read the required information in about four seconds and spent the rest of the time trying surreptitiously to catch Martin's eye.

It wasn't working.

"Mr. Potter," Batzri said as he witnessed the small scrap of paper fall onto Peter's book, "That will be another two points from Gryffindor. There will be no note-passing in this class. The next person caught doing so will receive two nights' detention."

No sooner were the words out of his mouth than there came a loud thump. Batzri looked up sharply to see a light-haired girl with a Hufflepuff crest staring in shock at a textbook, presumably hers, that lay open against the far wall of the classroom.

"Miss James," Batzri said icily. "Kindly retrieve your textbook and resume your reading."

Mute and nearly trembling, Gwen did so. Batzri nodded in satisfaction before examining the rest of the class.

"Who," he said dangerously, "Is the idiot responsible for levitation Miss James' textbook?"

Trent snickered silently to himself. Oh how he wished he had thought of doing that. Only, of course not to Gwendolyn. He had his own victims in mind.

Re: Tent
The class was silent. Batzri scowled deeply, adding, "Whoever is responsible for this, if you do not confess, the entire class will be held in detention for five nights. I suggest that you confess."

Gwen resisted the urge to bury her head in her arms as many of her classmates stole surreptitious glances in her direction. She wasn't sure who had lifted her textbook...she wasn't sure she wanted to know.

Rose looked around the room. Who would levetate a book? It seemed kinda dumb to her. That stupid Slytherin, Trent... he was stupid enough and evil enough to do it. Alright, so he wasn't really that stupid, but Rose didn't like him one tiddlywink. Whatever a tiddlywink was.

Josh looked at Aaron. Aaron had tried to levetate something over toward him... it might have been a note, he wasn't sure if he was glad about that or not, he wasn't anxious for a detention, even if he hadn't passed any notes, but he was hoping that he and Aaron were friends... and the parchment had fallen. Had he tried to pick it back up and accidentally hit the book? He was only a first year, after all. And Josh was only a second year, come to think of it.

Re: Tent
Aaron looked around at all the dismayed faces. It was not supposed to happen like this. Well, if he confessed he would get two or three nights detention, and if he didn't, the whole classs would get five. And nobody forgets something like that. But there was the note. He'd take the detention, but he didn't want to get caught having writen that, too. He had done it before. It made sense. He took out his wand and muttere a spell under his breath. All of the claass looked toward the girl who's textbook Aaron had thrown across the room. Or rather at her chair. Or rather, the empty space where her chair had been. It looked like he'd get five nights detention after all.

Batzri
"Mr. Callahan," Batzri said icily. "Kindly apologize to your Housemates; Ravenclaw House has just lost fifteen points for your idiocy. You may expect to meet me for the next five nights for detention, as well."

Irritated, he drew his wand, resolidified Gwendolyn's chair, and Summoned the note Callahan had been failing to levitate. The parchment burst into flames as Batzri dropped it onto his desk, and a moment later all that remained of it was a small pile of ashy dust.

"Please continue with your reading," Batzri ordered. "You have four minutes remaining."

Josh smiled tightly and Aaron. He had had detention only once before. It hadn't been particularly good, but not that horrible. But that was only once. Aaron had it five times. Not that Josh cared that much... they could still be friends.

Rose felt a bit sorry for the younger boy. Batzri was a strict teacher.

Marti glanced, impressed, at Batzri. Here was a teacher who knew what he was doing.

Quiz time!
Batzri passed out the quizzes, scowling. The incident with the textbook and the chair hadn't improved his already unsteady mood; he was ready to be done with this class.

The room was silent as the students worked, some quickly, others more laboriously. When they were done he curtly demanded them to pass them back up.

"Your homework will be a twenty-four-inch essay on werewolves, due to be handed in next class." There were several stifled groans - two feet was a lot, Batzri admitted to himself (but they deserved it!) - and the class fled.

CLASS IS OVER
