OOC: Hey, maybe the dustpan could be something Prof. Herring did, to help reduce mess this time or something. Just a thought.
IC: Rose nodded to Carmondy. "I know, being muggle born, I still am shocked by little things others take for granted."

Re: Comment
OOC: Yah, that's what I was planning.
Professor Herring waved her hand dismissively, "Don't fret over it Lizzie, dear, everyone's bound to get it a touch off."
She idly directed the broom and dustpan to clean up the spilled ingredients, "Get another bag off my desk, Rose, and grind that instead," and waved them back to their place by the wall with her wand.
"Narcissa, Trent, your potions look fine. However, at any time that they don't, I'd prefer you didn't pass notes. It's very easy to miss something - which can have disasterous results. You can keep on if you like until everyone is ready to continue, just make sure you're not distracted during actual teaching time." She smiled at them brightly.
"Now then..." Herring glanced at Gilderoy's potion nervously. "I'm afraid there's no fixing what we have here. It appears that you went awry early on and didn't tell me, and then continued trying to make the potion." She waved her wand at the cauldron and its contents disappeared with a faint sizzle. "It is VERY important that if it doesn't look right you let me know. That's why I tell you what it should look like and exactly what do to. Potions is a very difficult class to do well in if you don't focus and let me know if it's not going right. Severus," she beckoned to him, "your potion is the going the best, would you mind if Gilderoy borrowed some to work with?"
Severus looked smugly indifferent, "Sure."
"Thank you." Herring touched the lip of Severus' cauldron with the tip of her wand, "Exemplum," and the potion was attached in a liquid ribbon. She waved it at Gilderoy's cauldron and flicked her wand when there was enough. Severus had the same amount of potion, though Gilderoy's was nearly full. Professor Herring tucked her wand into her robes with a satisfied smile.
"Another couple of minutes and we'll move on."

Gilderoy
"Thank you, Professor. Don't know what could have happened there..." Gilderoy shot a nasty look at Snape, then turned to his new potion and began to stir.
Narcissa/Alvin/Carmondy
Narcissa scowled at Professor Herrings turned back. She rather disliked this teacher-- if you could even CALL her a teacher.

Alvin's hand shot up in the air, "Exactly how much longer will it take before our potions are ready to use?" he questioned, "And can we use the ink for other classes as well?"

Rosalee
Rosalee got another bag of ingredients and ground them all over again. She was a bit behind now (thats what she had been trying to prevent when the ingredients spilled in the first place) But she could see a bright side to it. By observing the mistakes others made, She could pay attention and make sure to not make the same mistake. She was relieved when, upon finishing Professor Herrings instructions, her potion looked how Professor Herring had said it should.

Re: Rosalee
"Actually, erm," Professor Herring looked blankly at one of her students.
"Alvin."
She smiled, "Actually, Alvin, we'll be through by the end of class or be just finishing up next class. You can techically use the ink in other classes, but the thing is, I don't think any other teachers have the slates that I have you all using."
Herring returned to the front of the room, "Let's continue. You should have bay leaves as part of your basic potion ingredients. You'll need to burn three of them and sprinkle the ashes into your potion. Stir it in -still with the cedar spoon -until the potion is inky black. Then add another 3 drops of unicorn water, I'll get that in a moment. Then perform the bubble charm and allow the potion to simmer for 3 minutes. And then you're done!" she beamed.

Penny
OOC: Could you tell us the word for the bubble charm, to avoid confusion?
IC:
Penelope dug in her potions stuff for her bay leaves. She rather liked Potions, but she wasn't sure about the teacher. Prof. Herring was strict, and Penny liked that...but she could tell that Herring was a new teacher.
Penny lay three of the bay leaves on her desk. Pulling out her wand, she prodded them with it, muttered something, and they burst into flame. She watched satisfactorily as the leaves shriveled and turned black, then crumpled into ashes. Penny enjoyed watching things burn.
When the fire had gone out and the ashes had cooled, she scooped the once-leaves into her hand and dumped them into her cauldron. She stirred a little boredly as she waited for the unicorn water.

humph!
OOC: how do you like that? I spent awhile writing a reply, and it is deleted! that is not nice! I'll have to try and remember exactly what I wrote...
IC:Rose took out three bay leaves, levitated them above her cauldron, and burned them to fine ash. She released the charm holding them up, and they gently fell into the cauldron. She stirred with her cedar spoon, and the potion turned black. OOC: or was it supposed to turn black with the unicorn water....? bookworm

Re: humph!
Professor Herring dashed off to retrieve the familiar crate of unicorn water. She set it on her desk and reached for the first vial - but there wasn't on there. She stared hard at the place where one should have been. I'm sure I haven't misplaced it... Her faced slowly pulled to a grim expression. I'll check my office securities before I mention anything about it. She briskly distributed the small vials.
"Remember, burn three bay leaves, stir in the ashes with the cedar spoon, the potion will turn black. Drop in 3 more drops of unicorn water and perform the bubble charm - it's just like putting a lid on a pot when you cook, only the lid is clear and rather rounder." She went to the cauldron she had preprepared for the demonstration. "The spell is bulla refervesco - that's BOOla ref-er-VES-co, and mind you say 'ves' and not 'vez'. Hold your wand over your cauldron and say the spell as you wave it in a slow, circular motion." She performed the spell, and a slightly pink bubble formed over the cauldron "In three minutes - use your timers, basic Potions tool - touch the bubble with your wand and it'll pop, leaving your Absum Atramentums finished. It will be the consistency of regular quill ink, and medium grey in color. Rather boring when it's all through, really. But that's why when you run out - and there won't be much of it there - we can go over how to personalize the ink. Different colors and such."

Rosalee
Rose poured three drops of unicorn water into her inky-black (or at least pretty close to inky black) potion. She then performed the bubble charm - careful to pronounce it correctly........and stepped back from her pink - encased couldron and waited.
Carmondy rested her chin in her palm and tapped her fingers against the side of her cheek, "Well I'm glad you're finding this interesting," she said to Rose, grinning, "We need to have a meeting under the oak tree later."

Rose
"Too bad theres no Rain today.......that was quite refreshing, it wasn't coming down too hard....there is a bit of a breeze, though." she said.
Carmondy
"Yeah, it was pretty nice wasn't it? I'm growing rather fond of that old oak tree."

Yes
"Yes, It is a good spot, just as long as we are the first ones there. When everybody goes outside, as likely as not it's Potter and his gang out there." she grinned her rare-but-becoming-more-frequent grin. "We just have to get there first."
OOC: I'm assuming it's the same tree as in OoTP...
Carmondy
Carmondy grinned and said in a humorous tone, "Oh please, do you really think they'd jinx US?" she gave an exaggerated flutter of her eyelashes.

Well...
"Well...." said Rose. "It isn't as if they mind breaking rules...."
