"Oh!" exclaimed Carmondy, startled to see the teacher,
"I was just coming in now..." she smiled hastily and walked into the classroom.
"Sorry I'm late, professor. I would've been here alot sooner but I was stopped by 3 prefects, 4 teachers, a run-away toad, moving staircases, an anry portrait, about ten house elves, 5 out of control owls, and the hallway traffic was terrible. I'm Carmondy Cunningham. 5th year, Gryfifndor. But you knew that, you had me last year...." She once again smiled at the professor, and took a seat next to Rose and Morgan.

Prof. Estrella raised her eyebrows at Carmondy before going back up to the desk. "Students, Carmondy has just brought up a very interesting subject. Today is the first day back, so I am excusing everyone today for lateness, etc. But I will have you know that even though I am not punishing today, a lie will be remembered. I can no longer trust Carmondy with anything, not a pencil to be borrowed or--" here she looked directly at Carmondy to see her reaction "--a start-of-year party to be planned. By the way, if any of you have a good idea for something we could do in class, we will be having free days every now and again, depending on student behavior and how often everyone has their homework done, so please bring the idea to me. If it is educational, we needn't wait for a free day, but if it's just for fun you may have to wait a while. Any suggestions or ideas, you may see me after class or send me a note or an owl." Professor Estrella looked around the classroom again. "Any questions, or people who want to introduce themselves? If not, we can get started." (OOC: I stress again, that if you think introductions aren't important or interesting, don't bother to write them.)

He leaned back to see around Gwen's head, but instantly ducked down again. Chelsea was still looking around for him. "Go away..." he hissed in her direction.

"You know who I mean," Aiden said in a low voice from on top of his arms. He slowly smiled, "I must look awfully goofy, hiding from a girl." He glanced past Gwen and crossed his eyes, "But then, who could blame me?"
He looked at his watch, "I'm just waiting for class to really start... it'll be easier to avoid her once we're involved in doing something." Aiden observed Professor Estrella a moment as she talked about honesty. His brows furrowed and he whispered to Gwen, "She's a bit worse this year, isn't she? Maybe it's because of what Potter and Black did last year," he added with a reminiscent grin.

After the students were done with their introductions, Prof. Estrella looked on the board. "OK, class. I don't know if all of you remember the rules--or just choose to ignore them." She looked severely at James and Sirius, sitting nearby eachother, remembering what they had done the previous year. "I apologize for those of you who follow the rules and have to endure this dreary lecture, but I have to review them.
"First of all, I expect you to be punctual. By the time class starts, I want you to be ready. I also want you to have respect, for everyone here and everything. I know you hear that all the time, but it is extremely important." She hesitated as she saw several students roll their eyes or yawn. "Anyone who does not obey these rules may expect a detention. If you have a problem with anything I say, we can work whatever you want out after class. Does anyone have any questions?" Nula walked to the front of her desk, swinging her arms. "OK, now that we have the dreary stuff overwith, let's move on. Everyone turn their textbook to page 4." Nula drew the Big Dipper on the board.
"The Big Dipper is one of the most commonly known constellations. It has been used to find the north star, and if you can't remember it from last year, I suggest you read pg 2 in your text for homework. It is a part of the larger constellation, the Great Bear. Does anyone have any questions so far? Can anyone tell me anything else about the Big Dipper?"

Bran, however, was not paying attention. Since Astronomy nearly always started with review information, he was prepared - under the pretence of taking notes on Estrella's lecture, he was actually drafting a theory on defense from the Unforgiveable Curses.

Rose recited in her mind: Ursa major means 'Big Bear'. Sometimes it is called 'the drinking gourd'. If you draw a straight line from the two end stars, it will piont to the North star, part of 'Ursa minor' or 'Little Bear'. She didn't raise her hand, she wasn't ready to draw attention to herself.

Just then Tonks burst in, out of breath with a wink in Carmody's direction, and said, "I am SO sorry, Professor!! I was helping Professor McGonagall carry some books to her office, and I fell behind and dropped a few books down the disappearing staircase, and it decided to disappear just as I was on it, so I got transported to some place in the dungeons that I have never been, and it took me forever to figure out where and when I was, thankfully it is still September 2nd because once I was transported three weeks ahead of time and it was disasterous! It took me almost two months to catch up with all the work I was missing, and I almost failed last year. It was horrible." Tonks tried to conceal a grin as Carmody burried her face into her bag to stop from laughing her head off.

Lizzie, who had slipped in earlier unnoticed supressed a giggle at Tonk's excuse. Looks like Carmondy's got some competition, for most ridiculous excuse for being late. She silently thought.
