OOC: Poor Kettleburn is rather distracted. And plus, Anne, that was TOTALLY unfair of you! How am I supposed to know about determining gender of sphinxes???
IC:
"Er," Kettleburn said, nervously shifting his gaze from the restless sphinx to the questioning student and back again. "It's in the face." The student - what was his name? - looked perplexed.
"That is to say," Kettleburn continued, mopping at his brow, "The shape of the face. Generally. A female has a narrower face, whereas a male's is rounder." He had begun to babble - he stopped and took a deep breath. The information was credible, but who would believe him if he was jabbering like a lunatic?
"This is a female," he said, regaining some vestige of calmness. "Notice the length of her face and the severe slant of her eyes. The easiest way to tell is in the face." Now he was beginning to repeat himself. Inwardly berating his own bumbling manner, Kettleburn raised a hand to get the class's attention.
"You have five more minutes of observation," he said, his voice wobbling only a little. "After which we will return to the lawn for a short lecture on the sphinx before class is dismissed. Please use your time wisely - you will be quizzed on this information later."

Aralyn, slightly perplexed about not having a partner again, spotted a rather charming but dizzy looking boy alone. She walked up to him.
"Hi, I'm Aralyn, and you are? I was wondering, since you don't seem to have a partner, I was wondering if you would like to be my partner."

Tonks, using advantage of her shapeshifting, changed into a student she saw in the crowd and snuck in. She hated being late, but she hated waking up before ten too. So extremely late. She made it into the class without the teacher noticing (he looked rather nervous, jittery, and altogether preoccupied) and changed to her normal self. She walked around greeting people. The blonde girl she scared on the train was talking to a blonde boy who was shaking his head somewhat stupidly, as if he had no idea what was going on. She was blue haired again, she the girl wouldn't recognize her, but she was shocked to see that Carmody even made it to class before her!

Carmondy noticed out the corner of her eye that Tonks had just arrived. She winked at her and continued to press Chris,
"So how do you like the Sphinx?" she questioned, making sure to avoid eye contact with Rose and Morgan, which would immediately set off a fit of giggles. There was nothing guys hated more then talking to a group of giggly girls.

Morgan grinned and looked away, pretending to study the sphinx (which had now curled up at the opposite end of the enclosure). She was afraid that if she paid too much attention to Carmondy's inept flirting, it could be tragic.
"Professor," she said loudly after a moment, "How are we supposed to study the face of the sphinx if we can't make eye contact?"
Kettleburn coughed uncomfortably. "Good point, Miss Bendigeid," he said, his voice wobbling. "You are free to study the face...as carefully as possible."
It was an invalid question, though, as the sphinx appeared to have fallen asleep in the corner of the enclosure. Noting this, Kettleburn raised a hand for attention again.
"If all students will please return to the main lawn," he said loudly, relief showing in his voice. "We may wrap up the class." The class was almost over...Kettleburn suppressed a happy sigh. The unit on sphinxes was most definitely going to be notoriously short.

Aaron walked back to the main lawn. It had been a very interesting class, but he wanted to start on defense against the dark arts. That sounded cool, he got to learn spells, not just the junk about ink and goblins.

Tonks joined Morgan, Carmondy and Rosalee in returning to the main lawn with the rest of the class.

OOC: ILRL, you seriously misread. First of all, HoM is BEFORE CoMC...also, they aren't going back to the castle. Class has NOT ended yet. They're going back to the main lawn for a short lecture on sphinxes (or at least as much as poor Kettleburn can get out).
Carmondy
Carmondy seemed un-dissapointed at the fact that Chris had flat out ignored her and said brightly,
"Well, nice talking to you!" before following every else up to the lawn.
OCC: How old is Tonks?
Don't worry, I have a bunch of Carmondy's excuses written down somewhere :-D

Tonks stood and waited for Kettleburn to return to the main lawn also. She couldn't wait to be lectured on sphinxes.

Aralyn was terrible bored. She practically raised sphinxes in Egypt. She was used to being riddled, though she usually had to have help with them.

Carina mosied on over to the clearing and turned to face Remus, who had been walking near her. "So...how was your summer? Did you stay home? Take any interesting trips?" she folded up her notebook to signal the talk of school between them to be over.

"Er," said Remus, caught off his guard. "Not a very interesting summer. I stayed at home, mostly, and answered letters from James Potter and Sirius Black. A lot of them. You?"

Carmondy turned so quickly back around she almost knocked over Tonks.
"Oh, that's ok! So how did u like today's lesson?"
Her grin was so wide it threatened to stay in place forever.
