Chelsea's smile widened as Aiden consented to be her partner. But of course, she hadn't expected anything else. She proceeded to sit down and pull out her things while she waited for the teacher to begin.

"Alright, looks like we have an odd number of people in class, so - " she looked expectantly at the greasy-haired, pallid, scrawny boy sitting alone in the far corner.
"Severus Snape." He said it in a very surly fashion, but Professor Herring recognized his upright, alert position as the posture of an attentive and dedicated student.
Herring smiled, He's undoubtedly talented in this class. "So Severus will partner with me. Would you mind coming to the front, Severus, and bringing that little case of glass bottles with you?"

OOC: Does it REALLY matter that not all of my characters officially have partners? I only actually did Kenneth and Chelsea. Can I just stick some student with them and pretend they picked them earlier? (LOL, am I making any sense?)

If your character does not have a partner, just pretend he/she does. It's not that big a deal.

Chris couldn't think of anything else to really keep a conversation going with Gwen so he just said, "Might as well sit down and wait," And he quickly sat down. He surveyed the rest of the class as everyone rushed to find a partner. While looking at one girl, he was pretty sure her name was Carmondy, he thought he saw her glance his way and wink. He couldn't be sure though, so just to be nice he flashed a quick smile back at her and then waited for the professor to start the class up.
Chelsea and Aiden again...
Chelsea kept glancing at Aiden, who was stubbornly keeping his eyes on the teacher and acting like he'd forgotten that Chelsea was sitting next to him at all. The very nerve! She took a tiny comb out of her bag and ran it through her hair, primly ignoring Aiden in return.

Poor Chris and Gwen...!!!
Gwen glanced at Chris, blushed, and looked to the front of the class where Professor Herring was preparing to begin her lecture.
"Do you like Potions?" Gwen asked, determined to break the silence - and the ice.
The potion
Professor Herring took the glass bottles from Severus and put them carefully on her desk. She tapped her tablet with her wand - "make sure you get these so you can follow along. You'll need them for studying purposes too." - and began walking slowly around the classroom.
"Absum Atramentums is a somewhat antiquated potion for use of quick note-taking. Some of the ingredients are...well, a little hard to come by. Firstly, fill your cauldron half way with water and get it at a rolling boil," she watched with a satisfied expression as Severus did so, and glanced around the classroom at the other students as she approached the front. "While one partner minds the water, the other needs to come up and get a twig of rosemary," Herring placed a large basket of them on the workbench by her desk and handed one to Severus.
She waited patiently as the students retrieved the twigs. When they had returned to their cauldrons, she continued. "With the water still boiling, stir it with the rosemary clockwise for three minutes. With one partner busy stirring, the other can come get the brown recluse spider venom," she laid her hand on a case of tiny bottle with droppers in them, "and the unicorn water," she strolled to the next case, similar but with silvery-clear liquid inside.
OOC: Will continue shortly, I have to help Dad fix his car. It won't take long at all.

Severus stirred the rapidly bubbling water with the rosemary twig just as Herring had instructed, suppressing a self-satisfied smile as he did so. He had, at last, found a Potions teacher who saw past Potter and Black's charisma to the true talent in this class.

"I don't necessarily hate potions, but it's not my strongest class. You?" Chris asked, standing up about to retrieve the ingredients the professor said they needed.

"When you have the venom and unicorn water, add three drops of the venom. The potion should turn a somewhat disturbing shade of blood-red. Then add 3 drops of unicorn water - it turns a silvery sort of color when you do." She fetched Severus the ingredients, "You can put the bottles of venom back, but keep the unicorn water at your desk, you'll need it again here in a few." Severus returned the venom to her and she slipped it into an empty slot on the case.

Carmondy grinned in her friend Rosalee's direction. Rose didn't like being somewhat shy---but Carmondy found it slightly amusing (much to Rose's dismay). Did Chris just smile at me?
