"Let's go for a walk. I - " Aiden grasped suddenly at a few scraps of courage, "I want to talk to you."
Gwen laughed lightly, "You are talking to me!"
Aiden cracked half a smile, "You know what I mean."
Gwen nodded, her amusement fading to curiousity, "Let's go then."
They walked aimlessly and without conversation until the silence became awkward. Aiden cleared his throat and turned to lean against the wall. "Well." He slid down to sit and Gwendolyn sat across from him, looking a little concerned.
"Well. I, um, think figured out why I spazzed out over James Wednesday...I know I never really gave you a straight answer..."

"So - why?" Gwen was curious, and not a little relieved. It had been bugging her for two days now.

Gwen stared at him, eyebrows raised.
"Duh," she said. "Of course I want to know. I'm ok if you're jealous of James' quidditch, or something." She shook her head and smiled. "It's not that big a deal!"

"No, it is a big deal! I was jealous of James, but not about that. I - " Aiden spilled, "I love you, Gwen. I always have, you're my best friend, the best thing that ever happened to me, you've always been there for me, always. But now, things are different. I can't explain why, I'm lucky to be able to explain how. I guess it started seeing you again this year, and everyone acting so different and so stupid, and you still being the same Gwen I've always known. I just started feeling differently from there, but I didn't really acknowledge it or realize what it was until we got in a fight. I was so miserable all day not having you there. I just want you to know how much I care for you, more than a friend. I really do love you, Gwen."
He continued, "But I don't expect you to feel like that about me. I still want to be your friend, but I want you to know how I feel so that, maybe, if you ever feel similar..." Aiden trailed off.

Gwen gaped, completely at a loss for words. Within moments her shock had transformed into anger.
"Aiden - we promised - this is stupid -" she expelled her breath in exasperation, angry tears leaking unwanted from her eyes.
"We decided not to do this," she said a moment later. "How could you - why?"

Aiden looked, miserable and horrified, at Gwen's tears. "It's not like I did it on purpose, Gwen...I would say I'm sorry for telling you...but I'm not. You needed to know. I needed you to know. I'm sorry you're upset though..."
With a loud noise of teary exasperation, Gwen shoved herself off the floor and fled the corridor.
